Wish I had room at the hideaway to bring this fellow home for my girls to play with. Ginger probably wouldn’t be a fan but I’m sure Dora would fall for him quickly.. or at least until he tried to cozy up to me on HER sofa…
During a recent trip to the doc I was given a short list of tests the doc wanted. I was told I could just wander anytime into lab at the regional hospital where the doc’s office is, no appointment necessary! Sounds convenient, no? But, being the regional hospital I questioned the sanity of not price shopping so put the missus on a mission to do so and the results will astound anyone who’s not been paying attention.
Of the 4 tests 3 were only about twice the price but one test was 6.7X more. Worse, it’s one of the most common tests out there for men.
Total price for the 4 tests at the regional hospital walk in lab was $445. Same tests at the local retail lab? $105.
Folks want to know what’s wrong with the cost of medicine these days? This is only a small example…
So I’m logging into my bank and you know it’s that time again; new password and 3 new security questions. I’m reading through the security questions and they are different every time they have to be reset. Mother’s maiden name, Spouse’s father’s name, what high school did you attend are all ones we’re used to seeing. But this last couple of rounds they’re getting more specific. Grandfather’s middle name (Mother’s side), Mother’s Birthday (mm/dd) and so forth.
What occurred to me as I’m trying to pick one out of a dozen for each of the three is how much potential data these guys are collecting about you over time. The caveat is how many use real life answers??
I know I don’t.
I’ve never seen a gun shop employee without a sidearm and this illustrates why. About 48 second mark the clerk tries to get to something – not sure if it was a gun but robber #2 wasn’t going to let it go. Rule number 1, have a gun.
And it’s being reported by USA Today, not Fox News… seems the veil is slipping…
This month a 31% increase in my Anthem healthcare insurance premiums goes into effect and what do they do? Today they gave $1 million to Marion County for preschool. And here I thought the insurance companies were going broke from skyrocketing claims and that’s why they need to jack our rates. But then they’re just agents of the government now so why am I surprised they’re redistributing my wealth?
I ran across this little gem in the IndyStar Let it Out section and had to comment on it but don’t do Facebook.
For those who argue tax breaks for the wealthy help the economy, while a wage of $15 per hour will hurt the economy: watch what happens when the general consumer has a little extra money due to low gas prices.
Seems the gasoline price argument actually reinforces the argument that raising minimum wage will hurt not help. Raising minimum wage should be equated with what happened to the price of everything else when fuel skyrocketed. Fuel and labor are both ingredients to creating products and offering services and minimum wage hike proponents don’t seem to get that. Raise the cost of production, fuel or labor, you raise the cost of that product – be it durable goods or services.
What’s more, the folks that get the raise will have the same purchasing power as before because of rising prices due to increased labor cost. Then, everyone above minimum wage will LOSE purchasing power. So minimum wage earner break even at best and yet again the middle class looses ground because prices went up but their pay did not.
Sometime Monday afternoon Thunderbird started having issues connecting to Office365 as well as Google. It would try to fetch or send a message and just sit there trying and never finish. Restarting the software did nothing but if I’d reboot the system it’d work for about 5 minutes then it’d hang up again.
This was on Fedora 17 as well as 20.
During the course of trying to troubleshoot this madding issue I found no logged error messages. I set my workstation connections to go out 3 different routers, thru 2 different tier 1 connections. I tried eliminating NAT by setting the workstation to a public address.I checked dns, routing, firewall/filtering. Nuked my Thunderbird config and re-added the accounts.. even checked my workstation at home, also Fedora 20, and it works just fine there. I frankly was running out of ideas….
Then finally I got to looking at netstat output and I see Thunderbird is trying to connect to imaps using an ipv6 address! I reboot and start Thunderbird and see it connecting to an ipv4 address and it’s working. After about 5 minutes it stops working and now netstat shows pending ipv6 imap connections and the connection count just grows until there’s a dozen that never connect….
So, I disabled ipv6 on the interface…
It’s been over 15 minutes now and netstat is showing ipv4 connections to Office365 addresses so I **think** I”m good now… guess we’ll see…
This has driven me totally crazy (yeah, I know…) since Monday when it started and I could find absolutely nothing searching Google so I’m posting in the hope I’ll save some other poor soul some trouble.
The Six Conundrums Of Liberalism
- America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized
- Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.
- They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.
- Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.
- The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
- They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
Everyone KNOWS Iraq had NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESRUCTION so how coudl it be that there are Secret Casualties of Iraq’s Abandoned Chemical Weapons.
My hunch is that this will be vindication for Hillary’s vote FOR going into Iraq… but not for W…
